About Us

We first met in 1998 on a beach vacation, in Spain where Ana lived at the time. Finding a deep connection we became close friends. Six years later by 2004, we realized that our friendship had turned to love. In 2012 we were married in San Francisco and we are now looking forward to building a family together. We feel that the time is now perfect for us to start our family and we are emotionally and financially ready to provide a loving and caring home for a child.

As we started planning we looked at all our options and open adoption was the one that felt right to us. We want our child to know their full story so that we can proudly talk about how we became a family from day one.

Gam talks about Ana

Ana is an amazing wife and will be a wonderful mother! Since we have been together, she has shown me the true meaning of caring, devotion and love. She is my soulmate, my partner and my home. Ana was born in Madrid and is very proud of her Spanish heritage and European culture. However, her wide travels around Europe and internationally have given her a broad perspective on the world, one that we would want for our son or daughter.

I am proud of Ana’s career as a lawyer specializing in Civil Rights and Social Housing, and also teaching European Law. Now in San Francisco, Ana plans to devote herself full-time to caring for the baby during the early years. She will certainly also continue her law practice when the time is right. Ana has always admired bilingual children, and studied hard as a young adult to become proficient in English herself. I know that she can’t wait to read to our child bedtime stories in Spanish, both traditional tales and the wonderful stories she invents.

Ana is happiest when she is active, whether it is going for a hike with me and our dog, Nangi or taking a pilates or spinning class. Music (of all types) is part of Ana’s life, I have no doubt our baby will grow up surrounded by music and dancing. Ana is giving, compassionate and joyful, always offering help and spreading her laughter to all she meets. I’ve seen Ana with babies, children and teenagers - she’s able to catch the sparkle in their eyes and have them quickly smiling or laughing. I can’t wait to see her with our own child, that would be an amazing gift.

Ana talks about Gam

Gam loves children and he’s always wanted to be a father. In some ways, he hasn’t stopped being a child himself! He is still discovering the world around him. He shows me this with his enthusiasm and passion for life.

Gam was born in London and studied computer science at the University in England where he also completed a Masters. He now works in Silicon Valley and started his own company. in 2010. He loves what he does but he always makes time for family and friends. It is easy to enjoy life with Gam, his energy and activity means that he is continually planning something fun. When we meet friends, if ever there are children around, he immediately has them spellbound. With his imagination there is rarely a need for toys or games - in minutes there will be laughing children.

Gam is looking forward to sharing his hobbies with our child. I know he can’t wait to teach them to swim and to pick out their first bike. Our child will build big sandcastles and the coolest cardboard box forts. His creativity has no limits. Eating healthy home cooked meals together is very important for us as a family. Fortunately, Gam is an amazing cook, fearless in the kitchen, always planning meals for friends and family.

Gam is the love of my life and my best friend. I feel very lucky that we found each other. I admire him in many ways. He is for me a lesson in humanity. He will provide his family with all the love and support they need. Just thinking about the way he is with people makes me think that he will be a great father!

Friends and Family

We are both very close to our families – we are very grateful that they have always given us love and support throughout our childhoods and our adult lives. From our parents we’ve learned to be humble, generous and loving – values we will share with our own child.

We share deep family roots in Europe. Gam’s family lives in London, England and Ana’s family lives in Madrid, Spain. They love coming to visit us in San Francisco and we also visit them several times a year and speak to them daily.

Ana and her sister share an unbreakable bond. Ana’s 14 year old nephew Alberto sees Ana as his second mother. He has spent a lot of time with us in California visiting Disneyland, Yosemite, Tahoe and we enjoy going with him to the movies, bowling, skiing and his sports events. We cannot wait to take our child to these places and on other new adventures. Ana’s mother’s dream is holding her new grandchild and spoiling him/her in every way.

Gam’s younger brother lives in London and has two boys, 7 and 9 years old, mad about soccer and bundles of enerey. Gam's parents are awaiting the trip when they come to meet a new baby. We are very lucky with the friends we have, many of whom we’ve had since childhood; they are all extended family to us. We are always able to count on our friends for support and celebration. Some of our friends have become adoptive parents already while others are adopted themselves. They show us how much connection and love they have with their families. We are excited that we have the support and knowledge of these connections. We think it will help us be the best parents we can be.

 

Spirituality and Religion

Ana was raised a Catholic and Gam by Catholic and Buddhist parents. We are both very spiritual, finding peace in our common beliefs and in seeing the good in humanity. We will certainly introduce and share spirituality with our child so that he/she can find their own path

Nangi, our dog

Nangi is our 12 year-old mellow Norfolk Terrier/ Jack Russell cross. She has a huge personality (our dog sitter begs to have her come and stay!) and we have no shortage of friends who enjoy her energy.

Our home in San Francisco

We live in a beautiful new condo building, close to the San Francisco Giants stadium in a safe and quiet area of the city. Our building has an interior courtyard and is surrounded by parks and open spaces where children love to play.

We have amazing views of the Bay and we have a vibrant community area where we spend time with our friends BBQ’ing and sharing stories – there are plenty of new babies in the building and there is a mother’s support group where Ana plans to connect with other mothers and find community when a baby joins us.

We are a short walk from San Francisco’s Embarcadero, where we picture ourselves walking with a stroller to the Ferry Building farmer’s market. We will take advantage of the short drive to the beaches in San Francisco, and the Golden Gate and Presidio parks.

What we enjoy doing together

We love to open our minds by discovering new places and cultures. Our favorite places were Italy, Poland and Morocco. Last year walked the El Camino pilgrim’s route in Spain and in the US, we’ve driven across New England and the entire length of the West Coast from San Diego to Portland, we loved Big Sur, whale-watching and visiting the Elephant Seals.

We love where we live in California because we find peace in the mountains and by the ocean. Both of us feel a special connection when we visit deeply spiritual spots like Shasta, Sedona or hiking in the Redwoods.

Closer to home, we are content with the simplest things like a trip to the grocery store or a movie at home with a bowl of popcorn. Every day there are plenty of opportunities to laugh and enjoy each minute of life.
