Hi! We are Crystal and Jonathan from San Jose, California. We are 33-years-old, and after being together for over eleven years and married since 2013, we are ready and excited to become first-time parents through open adoption! We can only imagine what you are experiencing, including how potentially overwhelming it may be to read these letters from multiple adoptive families. Like all the families you have been reading about, we are ready to love and provide a safe home to your child. But we also promise, that our home will be filled with music and laughter, and we will value silliness and fun as a family. Our dream is to raise a confident and independent thinker who is also honest and kind.

About Us

We have been together for over 11 years and married since 2013. We met as Freshmen in college at UC San Diego where we lived across the hall from each other. A few years later, we started dating, became best friends and decided to spend the rest our lives together. Crystal thinks Jonathan is the funniest person she knows.  Jonathan thinks Crystal is the most sweet and caring person he knows. We both have a silliness that we adore in each other, and that fun spark is what keeps us smiling every day.  We love to dance randomly in the kitchen, binge watch TV shows on Netflix, and eat fried chicken.  We love to travel. One of our favorite trips was to New Orleans for a weekend where we saw Crystal’s favorite alt rock band perform, and indulged in glorious cuisine representative of the area (like jambalaya and gumbo).

Travel, food, and family are our loves in life. Crystal’s family is originally from Hawaii, so we spend time traveling there to visit relatives and to enjoy the local culture and food. Last year we took trips to Costa Rica for Crystal’s cousin’s wedding and Spain to visit some of our dearest friends.

Our Home and Family

We live in a quaint neighborhood in San Jose, CA called Willow Glen.  We are walking distance to top rated schools, parks, and local restaurants. We love our home and our neighbors. We live in a close knit community with great neighbors. We all know each other and look out for each other. The nearby schools provide ample space for Rusty, our beloved retriever, to run around.   

Our home has three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Our office/music room is one of our favorite places to be. This is where Jonathan plays guitar and records his own music, Rusty takes naps, and Crystal practices her yoga. It’s a small room, but big enough to fit all of our hobbies. We have a great backyard and some projects that we are currently working on are: a garden, ample running area to play, and a lounging area to read books.  

Crystal is very close to her sister, Tiffany and her family. They live about a mile away. Niece, Alexis (9), and nephew, Kai (6) come over often for sleep-overs or just to visit. Crystal’s parents also still live in the home she grew up in which is about 1.5 miles away. It’s nice that “grandma” and “grandpa” are nearby.

Jonathan’s parents are retired and live in San Rafael, just north of San Francisco (about 1.5 hour drive). We are so fortunate to be able to visit with them once a month in between their volunteer commitments and world travels. Jonathan’s brother, Ryan and his family just moved to Minnesota! We are really looking forward to having lake time in the summers with our niece Olivia (almost 2 yrs).

About Crystal

Crystal works as a manager of a dental practice in San Jose. In her spare time, she enjoys jogging with Rusty, baking and cooking, crafting, and watching Grey’s Anatomy and Vampire Diaries. She loves to read, but more so enjoys having dinner dates with her girlfriends and catching a movie. Her favorites in life are: chocolate chip cookies, Jonathan, family traditions, Gwen Stefani, flowers, the Twilight books, and milk duds (not necessarily in that order).

Over the past 8 years, Crystal has helped raise her niece and nephew and has taken to the tasks of changing diapers, teaching ABCs and showing how to share and say thank you naturally. Crystal has been a babysitter, a high school math tutor and a college residential advisor. She’s great with kids and teaches them to be intelligent, caring and giving. Jonathan can’t wait to see Crystal become a Mom. He’s excited to see those moments with her and their child learning to read, laugh and smell the roses.

About Jonathan

Jonathan manages sales and marketing for a high tech farm that grows organic produce indoors. He works with chefs and restaurants throughout the Bay Area. Outside of work, Jonathan loves music (he’s been playing guitar since he was 12), playing games (board games, card games, video games, you name it), and spending time in the great outdoors (hiking, snorkeling and gardening).  

Jonathan is a sweet and compassionate kind of guy. He is very loving and always very thoughtful. One of Crystal’s favorite things is to watch Jonathan interact with our 2 nieces and nephew. He is very patient with them. When they come over, he loves to teach them new board games or go for walks to the nearby park with Rusty. Crystal knows that he’s a natural father and is eagerly awaiting for his chance to experience all those “firsts” with his own son or daughter.

Our Dog, Rusty

Rusty is a retriever and just turned one!  He enjoys treats, belly rubs, treats, walks, treats, playing ball, treats, sleeping on his back, treats, watching sports on TV, and did I mention that he likes treats? He still goes to puppy school so he can continue to socialize with other dogs and fine tune his obedience so someday we can go places off leash. He loves playing with our nieces and nephew and is particularly gentle with the almost two year old, even though she likes to hit him. He takes it like a champ! He is patient and sweet with the children he has encountered. Rusty will make a great companion and protector to our son or daughter.

We are so hopeful for an opportunity to start our family. Our hearts and home are open and ready for a child to love and cherish. We want to raise our baby to be a confident and independent thinker who is kind, compassionate, and sincere. We promise education, opportunities, adventure, and an infinite amount of love that every child deserves.
